Know Thyself

11Aug08

This is an interesting meme I found on Hawthorn’s blog.

I am: of several minds.
I think: I’m on the right path.
I know: we’ll be all right.
I have: so much to be thankful for.
I wish: I was more productive and focused. And that I didn’t regret anything.
I hate: that I don’t write more.
I miss: parts of my younger self.
I fear: too many things.
I hear: but I’m not always listening.
I smell: everything.
I crave: peace.
I search: for consistency.
I wonder: if I have what it takes to make EditQuest successful enough that we stop struggling.
I regret: that I didn’t keep up with my writing.
I love: passionately.
I ache: when I can’t have what I badly want.
I am not: great at following through with my enthusiasm.
I believe: in God.
I dance: very rarely.
I sing: much less often and with much less confidence than I did before my last two years of university.
I cry: when I’m really happy.
I fight: with myself.
I win: in spite of myself.
I lose: myself in books.
I never: eat meat.
I always: want more.
I confuse: right from left sometimes.
I listen: but not enough.
I can usually be found: at home.
I am scared: of failure.
I need: to work on self-esteem.
I am happy about: the friends I’ve made blogging.
I imagine: no financial worries.
I tag: anyone who wants to be honest.

Oboy, I’m grinning right now reading this…

I could fill in this questionaire seriously, and reveal my inner thoughts to the world.

But the little voice in my head is just BEGGING to fill in the blanks with patented Friar smart-ass comments! :-)

    (…maybe later)!

  2. Hah! I look forward to it! (Maybe you could do both?)

Unfortunately, I don’t feel all that creative today, myself!

    Just a Few:

    I am: Constipated.

    I think: Caillou sucks.

    I have: A messy office.

I regret: Not catching that big fish.

I lose: My Mind at work.

I am not: Celine Dions’ biggest fan.

I am scared: of Evil Clown-Monkeys.

I love: Red meat, fishing, skiing and dogs. Not necessarly in that order

I win: $3.00 on the “Crossword” lottery tickets, occasionally.

    I never: Eat Lima beans

    I need: An ATTITUDE adjustment!

  4. Wow – that looks like a great Meme. I’m going to hold on to that for my blog when I’m content-light.

  5. Allow me to have a try, too:

I am: struggling with the English language

I am feeling happy: when reading such blogs as this one

I have been: learning a lot from other bloggers

I’d love to: see you all face-to-face

I enjoy: my 3 weeks vacation

    I believe: in humankind

  6. Friar: Ahaha!!

Hmmm, I’m constipated too. Creatively, anyway. Productively too. Dang, I just can’t get back into the routine. All I want to do is read my book and keep my mind off. You know?

Alex: Know what you mean: hence the post. :) I’m feeling a bit brain-dead and, well, content-light.

Ulla: You don’t seem to me to be struggling so much with English! I think you’re doing very well! And thank you for the compliment about this blog, as well. I like to say, and I do believe, it’s only so good because of everyone else here.

  7. Alex: enjoying your blog, btw. Just checking it out now. We seem to have a lot in common. I like where your head’s at and how you examine stuff out loud.

PS. Urban Panther’s your sis? Cool!

  8. Actually, I read this one last night and loved it. But I said to myself,

“I am: going to go work on my book instead.
I think: that is the right thing to do.
I know: I will have a chance to come back again.”

    :)

    Cool meme Steph.

  9. Brett:

    I am: proud of you
I think: it was definitely the right thing to do
I know: you will succeed and will be visiting here from NZ when you get there and settle down!
    I have: to get working… :)

  10. Steph,

Thanks ;) and good luck with the writing.

Hey, I like your gravatar. Very “you”.

    -Brett

  11. :) Thank you! It’s actually a pic I used for my old website.

Sigh. Speaking of websites…I should get working. My heart’s just not in it today. But maybe once I get started it will be all right. I don’t want to delay, it’s just that the task is so huge and daunting.

Oh well. It will stay that way if I don’t get working! :)

  12. You can do it. Go outside and breathe deeply, stretch in the sun, make a pot of tea (or whatever you drink), then sit down and work for just 10 minutes.

You might work longer than 10, but if not, that’s 10 you’ve done. Besides, it will be lunch time by then and you get to take a break!

    You’ll do it…

    -Brett

  13. Tea it is. And we do have a mottled blue and white sky, with sunshine.

Thank you. 10 minutes makes it feel more manageable. I can do that.

    Thank you.

  14. Good post…

    Annie O.

  15. Hey, Steph -
Welcome back! This post is beautiful — I feel like I really got to know you just reading these few short phrases. (We have a lot in common!) Good luck getting back in the saddle. I’d take Brett’s advice, if I were you ;)

  16. @ Rebecca: Thanks for the welcome!

I was just about to take Brett’s advice when the doorbell rang. It was our former neighbour, who has stuff in our garage as they build their house (their house is a bit behind schedule but their closing date was last week…). He wanted to pick up some of it, but of course since we’re friends we talked for a while. Then Colin came home for lunch, and soon, in about a half hour, Lucy will start begging for her walk.

No peace for the wicked, my mom used to say! Now, for that tea!

  17. Hey, you’re welcome – hope you enjoy the tea, once you finally get to rest and savour it.

  18. In the end I’ve nixed the tea. Going to the kitchen would only further distract me. I’m reading through my ebook now, and huh, would you know I think it’s pretty good? And even almost finished?

    Hooray! That’s almost one down!

  19. Isn’t that the way it always goes? Right when you’re ready to hunker down, the phone or the doorbell rings. Ugh. Glad you’re back on track with the ebook!

  20. Ha! Well, once I finished reading the ebook, I felt stuck. I decided to take L for a walk. Back, all I feel is the pull to read. I have a feeling I’m going to have to finish the damn book I’m reading before I can do anything else. And get this: it’s a young adult novel – about vampires and werewolves!!

Still, though, it’s making me think of EditQuest. If I got to edit stuff like this…

It’s getting me more excited about the site and more mentally with it to continue the daunting task of getting all the text ready!

  21. Completely off topic, but I just wanted to tell you while I’m here, that I devoured Holy Fools, Joanne Harris. In fact, I’ve been devouring books like crazy. I finally got around to The Catcher in The Rye in a day, and am now on Cocksure, Mordacai Richler, which is…strange…but funny. Moving right along the shelf!
Welcome back! Work’s been boring without you :-)

  22. Great! What e-book were you reading? I have a few on my list right now that I must tackle.

Hey, whatever triggers you can use to motivate you are good.

    -Brett

  23. T: Well, if it was boring, where are YOUR blog posts?? I’m waiting for new ones!! :)

Brett: the ebook I was reading was my own, on how to get published. I was trying to pick up where I left off and couldn’t so I thought I would read the whole thing and hopefully find that groove again. But once I finished it (12 pages so far) I just stopped. I took out Lucy instead. I just don’t feel like doing it!!

The other book I’m reading, fiction, is a fantasy called Breaking Dawn. It’s actually a young adult book, the fourth in a series that was recommended to me by the girls in the library I worked at. In each book, the writing starts out a little weak, but then it becomes quite compelling and I’ve never been able to put any of the four down. What gets me excited about EditQuest is thinking that I might get the chance to edit stuff like this!

  24. Steph,

You *will* get a chance to edit stuff like that. So don’t worry. And with the e-book you’re writing, you’ll get back into it.

I always work on multiple things so I can move from one to the other. I also don’t write in a linear fashion, so for instance I’ve written the conclusion to one of my books and the intro, now I’m filling in the middle!

    Good luck!

    -Brett

(I’ll have to check out your sister’s blog too… one second… Wow! Nice blog theme!)

  25. @Brett: It’s that excitement of getting to edit stuff like that, that motivates me. Well, is starting to really motivate me again. I’ll be ready to get back into it very shortly, I think.

About my sister’s blog: I know! I just wish she was more prolific!!

  26. PS. I have trouble doing things you way you do. I’m too orderly and am not great at multi-tasking.

  27. Steph,

I’d rather be more orderly :) but extreme conditions demand extreme responses (i.e. four kids!)

When I do have long blocks of uninterrupted time, sky’s the limit…

  28. I love it Steph. Sorry I missed it before.

Figures Friar and his lima bean hatred would be here. LOL

  29. LOL!! Oh, but of course! I think he did his after he found this one here…he can’t resist that kind of thing, lucky for us. I find his hilarious! And he did not one but several!!
