Steph No. 1 (so named because she was first to arrive at a site we both frequent – I’m Other Steph) of Watch your Steph has tagged me in a meme. I thought it might be a nice change from all the serious posts we’ve been having lately!

The task at hand is to let you in on six spectacular quirks about me and then tag six other people. But I’m going to cheat and say whoever wants to do this can just do it in the comments or on their own blog.

Without further ado, then, six quirks about me (I’m not sure how spectacular they’ll be, since it’s 1:38 am):

1. I cannot stand insects. I especially hate when big ones, like grasshoppers, accidentally brush my skin with their vibrating wings or cling to me. I totally freak out.

2. Whenever I sit down, I get the overwhelming urge to put my feet up, especially tucking them under me or to the side, even on my kitchen chairs or my computer chair or while sitting at a presentation. I like to be as small and cozy as possible. When I go to sleep, both my hands are folded in at the wrist and tucked up against me by my face. My feet are always one over the other. Everything is always tight and pulled in close. Only in the hot sun do I tend to relax.

3. Whenever I walk Lucy, I still suck in my stomach a little and try to look cool when cars pass by.

4. I am still afraid of the dark.

5. Everyone who knows me calls me a “such a people person” and is shocked when I tell them I hate working in public, I’m a bit of a misogynist, and I rarely leave the house. I am not, in fact, a people person. (But I do love my blogging friends!)

6. I still have two baby teeth. The third one was pulled last year. I’m 34.

  1. Steph,

LOL at #3. I do that at the pool, because I don’t have a dog to walk I suppose.

    Neat list!

    Regards,

    Kelly

  2. @ Kelly: Really, I do it everywhere, even at home sometimes. I would definitely do it at the pool! Even when I was about ten pounds lighter (i’m 115 now), I was sucking it in!!

  3. Steph, what a great list! I had a bit of fun analyzing those quirks…interesting! LOL! You mean everyone doesn’t suck in their tummy in public? Heck, I even do it at home if I’m passing the mirror! LOL!

  4. @karen: I forgot about your psychology! I bet you had fun with no. 2…

By the way, your art and perception post? At first I saw a pelvis. Then I saw two chameleons and an upside-down orange and pink butterfly. I’m not sure if I saw anything else. I remember thinking fairies… :)

    What does all that mean?

  5. I’m not a people person either. And I also rarely leave the house.

Weird about the baby teeth, ya big freak. :-)

  6. @ Amy. I know. I even thought of you when writing that. I’m not the only one who’s like that and yet reaching out with a blog.

The baby teeth are a mystery. Talk about holding on to my past! :)

  7. Those are really interesting. I especially like the details about how you sit and sleep, makes the picture of you come to life.

  8. Hah!

How often have the movies and TV portrayed the stereotype beer-bellied middle aged guy sucking in his gut in an attempt to look cool?

It’s funny to hear women admit that they do this too! :-)

  9. FRIAR!!! Hooray! I’m glad you’re back.

And I just caught myself sucking it in right now. Gotta look good for you. :)

  10. Hey, Steph -

Great new look and tagline! Congrats on the new computer — and on your emergence from the doldrums.

Your quirks made me laugh! Insects don’t bother me as much as fish do, though. I have fish-o-phobia.

  11. Fish! Oh, I LOVE fish! I miss our 6′ aquarium we sold before we moved into our apt. And I don’t mind swimming with them, either!
